The heart of my knowledge comes from experience working with hundreds of clients, from all walks of life, who have had a real desire to change and grow. My formal training as a psychotherapist began in graduate school in 1971 and continues to the present. I’m skilled in a number of therapeutic modalities: psychodynamic, psychodrama and group therapy, couples and family therapy, sexual counseling, cognitive/behavioral approaches and addictions treatment.
After 40 years of experience, my style is a rich blend of techniques drawn from a variety of traditions in the therapeutic arts. I tailor the tools I use as a therapist to respond to each client’s unique needs and goals. Overall, I believe I am most effective when I and my client have forged a relationship that empowers them to communicate with themselves and others. I view therapy as a creative growth process for both myself and my client.
My private practice began in 1980, but I have worked in a number of treatment settings prior to that. In the entire span of my career, I have been a children’s therapist, therapist supervisor, adult day treatment executive director, adjunct college professor, employee assistance program coordinator, sexual education curriculum designer for addiction treatment and trauma therapy specialist. I have also been a guest lecturer and workshop presenter in a variety of seminar topics.
